Mission Hills Chapter celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the chapter’s founding on April 16, 2008. Fifty-eight members and guests attended the lovely event, which was held in Leawood. Tea, coffee, and refreshments were served. The gifted harpist, Phyllis Hoffman, who also teaches harp and piano, entertained with general and patriotic music.

Founding Member

Mission Hills’ last founding member, Nancy Kuehnle, with Mary Frisch,
KSDAR Organizing Secretary and Mission Hills Registrar.

Many of the chapter’s 90 members were in attendance. They warmly welcomed several state officers and representatives from other chapters. Special recognition was given to Nancy Kuehnle, the last of Mission Hills’ original founding members.

Marge Willsey

A very special attendee was chapter member Marjorie Willsey, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

Officers

KSDAR officers, L-R: State Registrar Brenda Dooley; State Organizing Secretary Mary Frisch;
Corresponding Secretary Rebecca Kline; First Vice Regent-elect Anne Barbour; State Regent Shirley Coupal.

KSDAR State Regent Shirley Coupal was present and offered a few words about the restoration of the Santa Fe Trail DAR markers, the State Regent’s Project for her term. Mary Frisch, on behalf of Mission Hills Chapter, presented Ms. Coupal with a check to “adopt” the local Mahaffie marker.

Community Service Award

Chapter Regent Natalie Kenny presented a Community Service Award certificate to Barbara and George Nunnemacher, who, as a couple and with their service dog Tess, donate countless hours of time and work to various philanthropic and patriotic charities. Barbara’s Mission Hills Chapter membership is pending
completion.

Serving Tea

The members are very grateful to Tilly Masson and her committee, who planned and orchestrated the anniversary party with efficiency and flair.

This event served as a reminder to all concerned that DAR enhances the lives of every member. Each chapter, whether newly organized or 50 years old, like Mission Hills, gives to the community in many patriotic and educational ways.
