Major Elijah Hyde Chapter was organized on September 17, 1994, with Ida Faye
Eichman (Mrs. Gary L.) serving as Organizing Regent. Our chapter is unique in that all
the thirteen organizing members are lineal descendants of Major Elijah Hyde, whose
name we chose for that of our chapter.
In Memory

Our first project was to sponsor a genealogical
workshop for our community. Then we set about making ourselves known in this area by
presenting to educational institutions The DAR Magazine, the Patriot Index
(four volumes), and Looking Back, Trails to the Second Century, the centennial
history of Kansas DAR.
Members collect goods for the local food pantry and donate volunteer time
to the VA Medical Center in Wichita, and provide comfort items for their use. We actively
promote DAR and special events of a historical nature by contacting local newspaper, radio,
and television. One such special project has been the 50th Anniversary of the Korean War.
Our chapter meets on the third Saturday of each month, September through May.
