Anthony, KansasMartha Vail Chapter DAR organized on April 27, 1931. The chapter was named for the great-great grandmother of Mrs. Floyd Hayter, the chapter's Organizing Regent. Martha Vail married Joseph Johnson, a Revolutionary War soldier from New Jersey who served as a wagon master. Martha was recognized as a "very patriotic woman" by the New Jersey Historical Society. She was raised in the Quaker faith, but married "out of meeting." She and her husband are buried adjacent to the Presbyterian Church where George Washington attended services for two winters. The cemetery is called the Old Revolutionary burying ground, and is located at Morristown, New Jersey.
