On June 15, 1909, the Lois Warner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was organized in Junction City, Kansas. Mrs. Anna Kimball White served as Organizing Regent of the chapter. The chapter's name honors the ancestress of Mrs. White: Lois Warner.
Junction City, our home town, was founded in 1858, and derives its name from the nearby junction of the Republican and Smoky Hill Rivers. Among the landmarks and popular sites in our area is the G.A.R. monument, known as the Civil War Arch, shown at the top of the page. It is located in Heritage Park.
Our chapter has a rich history of service to our community and nation. The chapter came into its own during World War I, when it supplied monetary donations and donated the services of an architect for the Community House. Chapter members visited hospitalized soldiers at nearby Fort Riley, sold Red Cross memberships and Liberty Bonds, and supported a French War Orphan.
During each war that followed, the chapter has actively supported the troops. The chapter is proud to annually select an outstanding cadet at Junction City High School for the JROTC medal. Shown at the right is the high school band and JROTC presenting the Flag of the USA at a sports event.
A notable accomplishment of the chapter was the compilation of the cemetery records of 22 cemeteries in Geary County. The chapter also transcribed the complete records of the local First Presbyterian, First Methodist, and German Methodist Churches.
The chapter is particularly proud of Mrs. William Davis, a chapter member and native of Germany, who became a naturalized citizen in 1954. In the next years, she assisted over 1,000 persons in obtaining citizenship.
